Values of Free Expression

Free Expression

The United States was founded upon giving people more freedoms. Since we were once a colony under Britain we wanted more of a voice and freedoms. All of these values have been through some sort of change or disagreement on what it should protect and who it protects. I think that the two that stand out to me are Individual Self-Fulfillment and Promote Innovation.

These two ideas go hand and in with each other. Without the ability of free speech, our ideas and thoughts could be limited, resulting in a less advanced and expressive society. Promote Innovation is one of the most important values for a lot of different jobs, for example Game Designers have to just put out ideas that they think of to improve a game or make a completely new game.

This is from Sonic the Hedgehog movie, on the left was Sonic's original design and the right is what it was changed to after fans we're not happy with the original design choice. If we weren't allowed to voice our opinion then this movie could've done a lot worse at the box offices. Promote Innovation allowed people to hate on the original Sonic for the movie and get him changed to look like his normal self. Individual Self-Fulfillment is what allowed someone to make all the video game, comic book, and TV characters we love. Being able to think of stories for plot and details of that world and character wouldn't be allowed with free expression.
